Pet Dental Care

At Affordable Pet Care Northwest, we want to help your pet live a long and healthy life. That’s why we offer our patients comprehensive dental services. Dental care is one of the most overlooked facets of a pet’s wellness program. Pet owners often assume that the worst possible side effect of dirty teeth is bad breath, but that’s most certainly not the case.

The condition of your pet’s mouth actually contributes to their overall health. If you haven’t kept up a regular cleaning schedule, tartar and plaque can start to build up on your pet’s teeth. This buildup contains destructive bacteria that can enter your pet’s bloodstream and cause significant damage to their health. If left untreated, oral disease can even lead to serious illnesses such as liver, kidney, and heart valve disease.

Unfortunately, poor dental health is very common in American pets; more than half of all dogs and cats aged 3 and older have some form of gum disease. The good news is that this can be treated with regular dental exams and cleanings.

At-Home Dental Care

Your pet’s oral health shouldn’t depend solely on annual visits to the vet. We recommend that you and your family be proactive about your pet’s dental health. You should start by brushing your pet’s teeth regularly and offering them dental chews to maintain good oral hygiene.

The sooner you get your pet into a regular dental hygiene routine, the better. If you start brushing your pet’s teeth while they’re still young, it’s more likely that they’ll adjust to the practice. This will make long-term dental care much easier over the course of their life.
